BackStudent Robotics - The Creators of Nova
The dynamic Robotics team at Westminster City School, consisting of nine Year 12 students, visited Southampton University during the final weekend of the Easter holidays to represent the school in the national Student Robotics Competition.
Mr Myron, who is a Computer Science Teacher at Westminster City School and oversees the Robotics club said:
“I am very proud of how hard our Robotics team worked and the skills they have demonstrated throughout. Despite an early start for the drive to Southampton, the team’s robot had performed well in the online virtual competition which enhanced their excitement of meeting the other teams face-to-face.
"Problems with the hardware meant that our robot, R2D2, didn’t perform well on the first day, but we still got through to the knockout phase of the competition on the Sunday. At the end of the competition we received a prize for the best ‘Online Presence’, thanks to the social media team lead, Jamoi, who spent the competition interviewing participants and promoting the competition on Instagram.”
Jamoi, who is in Year 12 commented saying:
"I couldn't be more proud to have led as the Online Presence Lead.
"From managing our online platforms on TikTok, Instagram, to fostering engagement on Discord, it has been an exhilarating ride. Every post, comment, and interaction played a crucial role in amplifying our team's presence in the digital sphere.
"Since September, our team has poured endless hours into perfecting various facets of the competition, from Design and Programming to Strategy and, of course, online presence. Capturing each moment, whether it was a breakthrough in coding or a creative campaign idea, has been an absolute privilege.
"Through my role as the Online Presence Lead in the Student Robotics Competition, I honed a diverse set of transferable skills that will undoubtedly serve me well in future endeavors. Managing and curating content across platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and Discord enhanced my digital marketing and social media management skills, providing me with a deep understanding of audience engagement strategies. Additionally, overseeing our team's online presence demanded strong communication and collaboration abilities as I coordinated with team mates to ensure a cohesive brand voice and messaging strategy."
The Student Robotics competition is an annual event that Sixth Form students can take part in to build practical team and design skills in technology.
