Polar Capital Aspire Scheme - Scholarship Winners

2 February 2024

On Thursday 01 February, Westminster City School celebrated the four students, alongside their families who will receive scholarships from Polar Capital, a UK-based, client-focused, fund management business.

Many congratulations to Maria, Eugene, Hammad and Daniel for their success and it was wonderful to be able to celebrate this with them and their families. Polar's support for the school is truly remarkable and we look forward to other Westminster City School students applying for and receiving this award into the future.

Addressing the PCAS winners, Gavin Rochussen, Chief Executive at Polar Capital said: "All of you are very special with bright futures ahead of you."

Headteacher at Westminster City School, Mr Broughton Said:

“I am really proud to have celebrated this year’s Polar Capital scholarship winners. A genuinely life changing award for four students covering tuition fees and (in two cases) living costs as well. Thanks to Gavin Rochussen and Su Park for their work in delivering on a vision of education being a right not a privilege.”

Commenting on his experience, Eugene, who is in Year 13 at Westminster City School said:

I applied for the Polar Capital Aspire Scheme due to the large number of opportunities and support provided to the finalists such as mentors and also a summer placement during my time at university. This opportunity also means that Polar Capital will pay for my tuition fees which significantly reduces the debts I have to pay back when I finish university.

“Being in the final four is a great achievement due to the high competition and having to compete against other very skilled students. The interview process was quite challenging, but it was a good experience as it gave me insight of what is to come when I apply for jobs in the future.

“After Sixth Form, I plan to study Economics at university which will help me to gain valuable skills such as critical thinking and analytical skills, which can be used in jobs related to finance such as being a chartered accountant or an auditor.

Daniel, who is also in Year 13 at Westminster City School added:

“I feel proud and honoured to be a part of the final four. The unique opportunity provided by Polar Capital to gain real world connections with mentors, who provide guidance and assistance throughout university and beyond degree level where I hope to pursue a career in astrophysics research is absolutely phenomenal.

“The interview process was rigorous, however the interviewers were friendly and I have learned how to present myself to a high standard in a professional environment, and I am proud of how far I made it through the application process.
