Teaching Assistant of the Year

19 June 2024

Congratulations to Ms Grant, SEND Learning Support Assistant at Westminster City School on receiving a timely certificate of excellence as part of the Pearson Teaching Awards. Ms Grant received her certificate on Wednesday 19 June which marked ‘National Thank a Teacher Day’.

Westminster City School spoke to Ms Grant about this acknowledgement. She commented:

“I feel honoured and valued to be given recognition for the passion I have for working with children and I am committed to continue to deliver my best every day to help benefit these amazing individuals. I feel overwhelmed, as I truly really love what I do and I just want to continue to be a beacon for the teachers and students to help bridge the gap in their learning with every tool at my disposal.

“My journey at Westminster City School has been memorable thus far. I have been at this school for three years and in my first year I volunteered while successfully completing my CACHE Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning Qualification. During this period, I realised how much I enjoyed working at this school with the students and the brilliant professionals.

“As a result, my time has been very rewarding, supporting groups and individual students to be the best versions of themselves with enriching interventions and our interactive games club that allows students with low self-esteem to build confidence with their social skills and form a good foundation of friendship with their peers, but to also have some downtime before being ready to engage in their next lesson.

“I work alongside the most amazing teachers who respect and value what I have to say and support me with any challenges in the classroom. Overall, it is a very pleasant and welcoming school where both staff and students are supported to achieve the best and inspire excellence in all that we do.

“My goal is to be qualified in my Level 4 Certificate for the Higher Level Teaching Assistants (RQF) course which I am in the process of completing until 2025. I am also working towards being trained as an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant).”

Ms Khatib, Higher Level Teaching Assistant at Westminster City School said:

“I work quite closely with Ms Grant and it has been an absolute pleasure working together. She has a warm and welcoming disposition which has made my transition to Westminster City School smooth and enjoyable. She is supportive, encouraging and brings so much energy to the team, including her passion towards her role and our students which is very admirable.

“A huge well done to her on her certificate of excellence as she is a fantastic role model to our students. I’m certain that she will become a great Higher Level Teaching Assistant.”
