Pathways to Law Students Gain First-Hand Insight at Mills & Reeve

16 July 2026

Year 12 students on Westminster City School’s Pathways to Law programme spent a day at leading law firm Mills & Reeve LLP on Wednesday 15 July, where they met legal professionals, explored different careers within the sector and put their various skills to the test.

Hosted at the firm’s London office, the trip was an opportunity for students to hear directly from trainees, solicitors and business professionals about their experiences of working in the legal profession. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including routes into law, dealing with setbacks, making the most of networking opportunities and the skills employers value.

The students impressed staff throughout the day by asking thoughtful questions about the realities of a legal career and engaging confidently with professionals from across the firm.

In the afternoon, students took part in a speed networking session where they spoke with lawyers and support staff from different areas before working in teams to advise a fictional client involved in a tenancy dispute. Drawing on the knowledge they had gained at the start of the day, students considered the legal issues, discussed possible solutions and presented their advice.

Mr Evans, Teacher of Spanish and Pathways to Law Lead, said:

"Our students asked insightful questions at all levels, especially about the different routes into law, how to view rejection as an opportunity to grow and how to build meaningful professional networks. It was fantastic to see them engaging so confidently with experienced lawyers and then applying what they had learned during the interactive legal workshop. We are incredibly grateful to Mills & Reeve, especially Temi and Audrey, for their generosity, enthusiasm and continued support of our students."

Other individuals who were supporting the event included Shannon, Events Executive at Mills & Reeve, who took part in the careers panel.

Reflecting on the day, she said:

"It was a fantastic opportunity to share my career journey and explain the important role that business development and events play within a law firm. The students asked thoughtful questions, and I hope they left feeling more confident about the many career paths available to them. I think it’s fair to say we all learned something from the experience."

Westminster City School’s Pathways to Law programme continues to give students direct access to the legal profession through partnerships with leading organisations, helping them develop the knowledge, confidence and professional networks that will support them as they take their next steps towards a career in law.
