Today is the start of a new academic year at Westminster City School as we welcome students back and extend a warm welcome to our new Year 7 and Year 12 cohorts.

Joining a new school is exciting and can also bring a degree of unfamiliarity. There are new names to learn, new routines to get used to and new expectations to understand. We also know that those unfamiliar things begin to feel normal as students get to know their teachers, make new friendships and find their place within our school community as we help them to settle.

One of the things that makes Westminster City School distinctive is how diverse our community is. With no traditional catchment area, students travel in from across London each day to study in the heart of London. Their journey into school takes them past some of London’s most recognisable landmarks, including Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and St Margaret’s Church, where students attend services at specific points throughout the year.

The school’s values of Wisdom, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence remain central to day to day school life at Westminster City School. These values are visible throughout the school including in the playground and is also reflected in the way students approach their learning, conduct themselves and treat one another.

Year 7 students are beginning their secondary school years, while Year 12 students are starting a new phase in Sixth Form with much more independence, new academic routines and wider choices ahead of them. Returning students in Years 8,9,10 and 11 begin another year with the chance to get things right and build on what they have already achieved.

The start of the new academic year also brings a renewed focus on the partnerships that extend students’ experiences beyond the classroom. Westminster City School works with a wide range of organisations in the heart of London, helping students to broaden their interests, develop confidence and explore future pathways.

As part of that commitment, the school has reaffirmed its pledge to the Tri-borough Music Hub through Music Mark, recognising the important role that music continues to play within school life. In addition to our wider partnerships, it forms part of our commitment to developing well-rounded young men and women who are encouraged to discover their strengths, take part in new experiences and make the most of the opportunities available to them.
