BackAlumnus of the Month
Jason James is our Westminster City School Alumnus of the Month. Jason left Westminster City School in 1983 and now owns a boutique cyber security in California.
Please tell us a little about yourself – where do you work and how did you get to this role?
I own Regents and Park, a boutique cyber security firm located in California. After working in a variety of countries such as Italy and France for IBM (an American multinational technology corporation), I was placed in California for a year where I met my wife and we decided to move to California permanently.
What are some of your proudest achievements since leaving Westminster City School?
I was not the 'perfect student' despite the great education provided at Westminster City School. However, I learnt the importance of continuous learning which has allowed me to get to where I am today. That was something my teachers ensured to pass on.
I am now on two not-for-profit organisations providing 'Continuing Professional Education' to adults as well as children starting from age 11.
What advice would you give someone looking to follow a similar career path?
Working hard in school and college is extremely significant as part of the journey on the road to success. It might seem as though having fun now is more important, but the fun you can have as a well-paid and professional adult is so much better. Additionally, fun combined with professional success can last a very long time with the right mindset.
How have your experiences at Westminster City School contributed to your life and successes since leaving school?
It’s all about the teachers.
A school is made up of bricks and mortar held up by hardworking staff. You don’t realise when you're young the impact of their words and positivity until they are no longer there.
Don’t ever under estimate the power of your teachers!
Can you describe one of your fondest memories from your time at Westminster City School?
I always think back to school like it was Hogwarts. I’m proud we had Houses like Hogwarts that I could get behind and support, I was in 'Hills'! We also had a Tuck shop which I worked in and sold the best cakes. The school has character and stood out amongst other schools in the area when I attended.
What’s next?
Things are always changing, therefore, regarding my career it is hard to tell what is to come in the future. However, as we slowly return to normal, I hope to return to Europe for holiday.
We love hearing what our alumni have been doing since leaving Westminster City School. Each month, we are inviting a member of our alumni community to share their story of life after Palace Street. If you’re an alumnus who would like to take part, or you’d like to volunteer an alumnus that you know, then please drop us an email.
