BackInner Voices Choir - St Paul's Cathedral Evensong
On Monday 9 January, four Westminster City School students who are a part of the Inner Voices Youth Choir had the privilege of performing Evensong at one of London’s most recognisable building, St Paul’s Cathedral. This was an excellent way to start the New Year.
Inner Voices is a London-based youth choir that brings together musically gifted singers from inner-city London schools to perform in some of the country's top venues under the direction of Ralph Allwood MBE, ex-Director of Music at Eton College.
The students who were selected from Westminster City School to participate in Evensong are Zach (9K), Antonio (10W), Temi (10P) and Cyril (12K). Zach, Antonio and Temi have just completed their first full term, whereas Cyril is in his 3rd year with the Choir.
Mr Cecile, Subject Leader of Music at Westminster City School said:
"It is fantastic that the school choir has a direct pathway to one of the best youth choirs in London, Inner Voices. Furthermore, this Spring, Inner Voices will be going on a European tour, as well as performing in prestigious venues across the UK in the Summer. I encourage as many singers as possible to join our school choir so that they too can develop and eventually be invited to the Inner Voices ranks.”
Antonio who is in Year 10 at Westminster City School and a member of the Inner Voices Youth Choir commented on the event saying:
"I have never sung or even visited St Paul's Cathedral prior to this event. In fact, I didn't realise how enormous it truly is."
"Once we sat down in the choir stalls, I took a moment to admire the magnificence of the space. It was so beautiful, and the acoustics were even better once we started singing."
Students at Westminster City School who would like to get involved are invited to rehearsals which are held on Tuesdays & Thursdays after school from 3pm-4pm. All are welcome!
