An insight into Westminster City School's Sixth Form - "Collaborative"

10 March 2023

Being a Sixth Form student at Westminster City School is about so much more than just acquiring knowledge. Studying here prepares young men and women for future study and employment, combining academic excellence with guidance on applying to university and helping students to pursue their passion. We interviewed a number of our students in Year 12 who have shared their experiences of what it is like to study at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form.

Name: Daphne

Former Secondary School: Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School

A Level Subjects: English Literature, Sociology and Politics

Why did you choose to enrol at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form?

I chose to enrol at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form because I believe that I needed a complete change in environment. In addition, I believe that Westminster City School’s Sixth Form offers the best quality of education, especially through the connections based in London, and I simply thought that I would be able to strive successfully here with all the opportunities given.

What are your future plans and aspirations?

My plan after Sixth Form is to study Law and Criminology at King’s College London or Queen Mary University of London. I have always been interested in pursuing a career in Law, specifically Criminology, where I would like to understand the justice system and criminals. Furthermore, I would like to work towards becoming a Solicitor in court, as my interest often peaks with true crime documentaries and seeing how Lawyers work their way around various controversial cases.

How did you find the transition from secondary school to Westminster City School’s Sixth Form?

I found the transition quite difficult naturally, as you are adjusting to the next two years that are guaranteed to be challenging. Despite this natural feeling, within the first two weeks of starting Sixth Form, I was able to feel comfortable in the Westminster City School community.

Sociology is not as difficult as my other subjects, however absorbing the content with weekly quizzes helps me to test my knowledge and I hope that I am able to grow more comfortable in these unfamiliar subjects.

What are your impressions of the Sixth Form?

The Sixth Form is incredibly organised and definitely prioritises the needs of each and every student which is important for any school to have. I think that it is a wonderful community to be a part of. The resources given to us in the Sixth Form is very much appreciated by students which aids students, with the little things such as textbooks and laptops, which I was not expecting but I was thrilled to know about.

Why would you recommend prospective students to join Westminster City School’s Sixth Form?

I would recommend prospective students to join Westminster City School's Sixth Form because it is an excellent place to discover a new part of yourself, in terms of studying and personally. Studying somewhere new is a challenge, including the difficulty of A Levels. Personally, your growth is a challenge in terms of being involved within the community, friends, and mentally with balancing your subjects. This Sixth Form provides a new challenge and goals to indulge yourself in, to find a new, best version of yourself on this journey.

In addition, my advice to prospective students is to get into a good study routine in the beginning of Year 12, expanding and developing habits learnt in Year 10. Whilst the first few weeks are introductory to adjusting to the environment of a Sixth Form, forming good study habits will allow you to discipline yourself quicker.

What makes Westminster City School’s Sixth Form special?

Collaborative”

I have used the word collaborative to describe Westminster City School Sixth Form. Students and teachers here work really collaboratively for a comfortable and welcoming sixth form environment. Students work together in order to achieve their best and teachers are able to collaborate with them to fulfil their potential.
