Back'We cannot wait to do more!'
On Tuesday 16 May, students in Years 8 and 9 at Westminster City School had an amazing opportunity to represent their school at the SSLP (Southwark Schools Learning Partnership) songwriting workshop which took place at The Charter School North Dulwich. This was led by music industry professionals who spent the day teaching our students the key factors that make a successful band; as well as helping them to develop different songs that they have been working on recently.
Finally, students were able to showcase what they learnt over the course of the day and demonstrate their spectacular talent with a performance from each school band, ending the day with positivity.
Mr Cecile, Subject Leader of Music at Westminster City School who attended the event said:
"Following the recent success of our Sixth Form band in Future Sounds 2023, we are excitedly looking ahead to the next generation of talent to carry the torch for many years to come. I was proud to see our Key Stage 3 band perform with such professionalism and musicality. I have great confidence that the future is in good hands".
Pelumi, who is in Year 8 at Westminster City School commented saying:
"It was good to get advice on how to work more effectively for our future rehearsals. Everyone was very supportive, including the other bands taking part. It was a great experience.”
Sebastian, who is also in Year 8 at Westminster City School added:
"From the very start we were thrown into the deep end as we were asked to perform our songs first out of all the bands present and it was our very first time performing. I enjoyed this aspect as it taught us how to adapt and work under pressure. Additionally, it was great to see likeminded musicians from other schools participating in activities that we also enjoy. We cannot wait to do more!"
Well done to the following students from Westminster City School who attended the SSLP songwriting workshop:
Sebastian (Year 8), Toluwalase (Year 8), Pelumi (Year 8), Zach (Year 9) and Chiedozie (Year 9)
