WCS Fundraising Event - RBC Race for the Kids

5 October 2023

On Wednesday 4 October, 60 students and staff from Westminster City School took part in the Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity fundraiser, running 5k around St. James's Park. Samin in Year 11 got everyone under way and after 3 laps of the park, there were lots of smiling faces at the finish line in front of the Palace.

What a joy it was to see everyone joining together in what was a brilliant demonstration of the compassion and integrity of our school community.

Congratulations to the fastest round: Mr Moulton (19.52), Andre M in Year 12 (20.10), Zak M in Year 8 (20.50), Joel D in Year 13 (21.45) and Tobias M in Year 10 (22.28).

Deron, who is in Year 12 at Westminster City School commented saying:

"Completing the run in 22.02 minutes was a personal achievement I'm proud of, but what truly fills my heart with joy is the collective effort we witnessed. Every participant put their best foot forward, running not just for themselves but for children and teenagers who need our support the most."

"In these moments, we find strength in unity, and together, we've made a positive impact on the lives of those who need it. Let's continue to support such causes and inspire more acts of kindness and giving in our community."

Mohid, who is also in Year 12 at Westminster City School's Sixth Form added:

"I'm thrilled to share that I completed the race with a time of 23:10 minutes, but the real victory lies in coming together as a community to make a difference in the lives of these brave children.

"Cancer can be a daunting challenge, especially for the youngest among us. Every step I took was fueled by the hope of brighter days and the determination to make a positive impact.

"By participating in this 5K, I'm proud to be a part of a movement that aims to provide essential resources, medical care, and emotional support to these young warriors and their families. Together, we're making a tangible difference in the fight against childhood cancer. Let us continue to spread awareness, raise funds, and offer hope to those who need it most. Together, we can make a lasting impact in the fight against childhood cancer."

Thanks to the generosity of parents, colleagues, students and friends of the WCS community, we have raised over £1500 so far for this great cause. There is still time to donate, and families are welcome to go along to Hyde Park this Saturday where several students and staff will be taking part in the official RBS Race for the Kids.
