BackNavigating the Financial Sector, Pathways to Finance Programme
“Don’t let rejection stand in your way and don’t be afraid of being rejected.”
Regional Sales Director, Su Park who works for Polar Capital, covering Europe, visited Westminster City School on Monday 20 November to speak to students in Year 12 about navigating the Finance industry. These students are part of the Pathways to Finance programme at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form.
Su spoke about the victories and challenges she faced throughout her career, particularly during the financial crisis in 2008, where she learnt the importance of resilience and growth. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions about the industry and the experiences and skills that are needed for those who are interested in pursuing a career in Finance.
Adeshola, who in is Year 12 at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form shared her highlights saying:
“Su Park has helped me to see how important it is to embrace rejection.
“You can receive 20,000 'noes', but you only need one 'yes'. I found this particularly helpful, as it is easy to take rejection personally as a measure of your own value, but rejection is redirection and a chance to reflect so that you’re ready for the opportunities that are waiting for you.
“It was a spectacular talk, thank you to Westminster City School for arranging this.”
Jamoi, who is also in Year 12 at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form added:
“In our engaging Q&A, Su offered a wealth of knowledge, highlighting her top tips for success in the industry. From staying informed about market trends to adapting to changes, she emphasised the crucial skills needed for aspiring Finance professionals.
"We also explored the challenges Su faced as a travelling worker in Finance and her perspective on overcoming them. Her journey reflects determination and a commitment to breaking barriers.
“Su Park's experience is a beacon for anyone aspiring to excel in Finance. Her story not only navigates the complexities of the financial landscape, but it also embodies the spirit of overcoming hurdles and turning rejection into motivation.
“I’m definitely grateful for the wisdom shared. Now it is my turn to adopt her resilience, growth, and conquer the world of Finance! Thank you to Su Park, Polar Capital and Westminster City School for this enriching experience!”
