BackA Day at British Airways Global Learning Academy
Akash, who is in Year 11 at Westminster City School was successful in his application to do a work experience day with British Airways.
Recently, Akash had the privilege of spending an entire day at the British Airways Global Learning Academy in Vanguard House. Amongst other attendees, he was able to hear about the different pathways available to individuals who are interested in becoming a Pilot, as well as the skills and knowledge required.
Commenting on the nature of the day, Akash said:
“We were able to meet three different Pilots as well as staff from the Engineering and recruitment team.
“Throughout the day, we were given the chance to view their Flight Simulators, SEP Hall and an aircraft under maintenance. My favourite part of the day was the Flight Simulator, which gave us approximately 20 minutes to attempt to land a plane. The simulator was very realistic and it gave me a taste of what it could be like to be a Pilot.
“In the aircraft maintenance hangar, we were given the opportunity to fully explore the aircraft, it was really amazing to see the fundamental structure of everything. I was also able to see the areas of the plane such as the crew bunks, avionics bay and cargo hold.
“The SEP Hall was also another really interesting part of the day because we saw how flight attendants are trained and how the doors on the different aircrafts work. Overall, the day was really inspiring and extremely fun and I can't wait to actually become a pilot in the future.”
