BackCelebration of Achievement Evening at College Garden, Westminster Abbey
On Friday 12 July, staff, students and their families enjoyed the annual Celebration of Achievement Evening in the serene surroundings at College Garden, a private garden of Westminster Abbey. It is a wonderful venue with a marquee on the lawn, accompanied by great food and Westminster City School's excellent musicians who played a range of different pieces.
The occasion was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the wide range of student achievements over the past year, including those of our staff. Our Guest of Honour, Lord Dr Michael Hastings CBE, Independent Peer in the House of Lords addressed the young people in the audience providing sound advice on transitioning from school years onto the world of university and work. He said:
“Persist in what is small, ignore what everyone else is doing and achieving because life is about breaking your own limits. Make it your aim to outdo your past, your own goals and not that of other people.”
Prize-winner, Andrea, who is in Year 12 at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form said:
“Lord Dr Michael Hastings CBE, shared a powerful bible verse in his speech, John 14:1, which says ‘Don’t worry or surrender to your fear. For you have believed in God, now trust and believe in me also.’ Lord Hastings encouraged us to put God at the forefront of everything we do, which is something I aspire to follow every day. The evening was truly inspiring, providing an opportunity for students and teachers to celebrate their accomplishments and recognise the hard work throughout the academic year.
“I am honoured to have received the Peter Coles Prize for Psychology. I am immensely grateful to my amazing Psychology Teacher, Ms Mohammed, for all the fun and engaging lessons she has taught throughout Year 12.
“I would like to express gratitude to Westminster City School for orchestrating such a beautiful event!”
Another prize-winner in Year 12, Daniel, who was awarded several prizes commented saying:
“My week ended on a high at College Garden, Westminster Abbey. It was so amazing to see fellow students being celebrated for their academic excellence through awards and cheers. I am proud to say that I have won both the Jack May Prize in Geography and the Robert Lobb Bequest in Economics.
“I would like to thank Westminster City School for hosting the evening, my teachers for cultivating a sense of academic pride within myself, and my friends and family for always supporting me.”
