BackYear 12 visit to Magdalen College, University of Oxford
On Thursday 5 December, selected students in Year 12 at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form visited Magdalen College, University of Oxford for a taster day.
For many of these students, this was their first time visiting Oxford, which gave them an insight into the wide range of degrees that are available. The visit also provided them with the opportunity to further develop their knowledge of the application process, gain information about studying at Oxford or Cambridge colleges, and we hope to inspire them to aim high for their academic potential.
Year 12 student at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form, Olohirere, shared her experience saying:
“The trip to Magdalen College, Oxford was very enjoyable. In the morning, we listened to a talk by the Magdalen's Senior Outreach Officer, Nuala, who was a former student at the university. She spoke to us about the application process, financing university and the teaching style at the University of Oxford.
“Then, we went on tours of Magdalen and Brasenose College, given to us by current students which was very beautiful and serene. The students also spoke to us about life at the University, accommodation, and their subjects.
“My favourite part of the trip was the tours because it was so interesting to see the vast difference between university, secondary school and sixth form. This trip gave me insight into the university experience at a world class institution and will help me make a choice regarding what universities to apply to next year.”
