Degree Discovery Day for Year 10 Students at Dukes Education

8 July 2026

On Monday 6 July, nineteen Year 10 students from Westminster City School visited Dukes Education for a Degree Discovery Day to explore university subjects through a series of academic workshops.

The sessions that students were involved in covered Humanities and Arts, Science and Technology, and Social Sciences. Each workshop challenged students to think carefully and present their different ideas with confidence.

Students tackled a wide variety of activities including debating legal case studies by presenting arguments for the defence and prosecution, while others explored the relationship between climate change and political decision making. Students also designed rehabilitation focused prisons for specific criminal cases and examined how different organisms have adapted to survive in their environments.

Workshop leaders were particularly impressed by the contribution of Westminster City School students. Eneas and Archie were recognised for the confidence and clarity of their legal arguments, while Imran and Hezekiah received good feedback for their contributions to discussions on climate change and politics.

Felix and Antoniu stood out for the creativity and logic behind their prison design, and Sultan and Romaine were commended for the quality of their annotated biological drawings and scientific observations.

Miss Clarke, Head of Chemistry and Oxbridge Coordinator at Westminster City School, said:

"I was amazed with every student who attended. They engaged with the academic content and tasks that were given. It was pleasing to see so many of them recognised by the workshop leaders for the quality of their thinking and the way they worked with students from other schools where they demonstrated our values."

Westminster City School would like to thank Dukes Education, CEO Tim Fish, together with Mr Rees, Director of Pastoral Development and Partnerships at Westminster City School, for making the day possible and for continuing to support our students as they begin thinking about the next stage of their education.
