BackYear 12 trip to the Freud Museum
On Tuesday 25 April, Year 12 Psychology students from Westminster City School's Sixth Form visited the Freud Museum London to learn about the Psychodynamic and psychoanalytical theories in more detail.
These theories are both covered on the AQA Psychology curriculum, therefore this was a fantastic opportunity for students to discover more about what they have been learning.
The facilitated learning sessions looked at introducing Freud which focused on the role of the unconscious mind, how this drives behaviour and how this is the focus of psychotherapy - bringing the unconscious influences to light. Additionally, students were able to learn more about the history of talking therapies and how this was first introduced by Freud as part of his psychoanalytical theory.
These students then had time to explore the museum and were encouraged to start with Freud's study where the couch and interior design provided an insight into the Freud's family home from 1938 to the early 1980s.
Students also had the chance to ask specific questions and received answers that will be useful for them now and in the future, particular for our aspiring Psychotherapists. This experience has surely helped to bring to life all the topics they have learnt in their Psychology lessons.
