BackWelcome Home, Wes Streeting MP!
It was an absolute delight to welcome back Westminster City School alumni Wes Streeting MP on Wednesday 21 June. Wes Streeting is the Labour MP for Ilford North and Shadow Secretary of State for Health & Social Care.
Wes reflected with fondness and gratitude as he spoke about his time at Westminster City School and the support he received from his teachers.
Students in Years 12 and 13 who study Politics A-Level at Westminster City School’s Sixth had the opportunity to speak to Wes about his career journey as well as his teenage years in school. They also had the chance to ask pressing questions related to the world of Politics.
Joel, who was able to be a part of the discussion said:
“What I enjoyed most about the Q&A session with Wes Streeting was how candid he was in his responses; he did not try to equivocate.
“As someone who would like to go into journalism, it was interesting to see the sort of questions I would ask politicians like Wes in the future."
Tutti, who is in Year 12 added:
“American journalist and author, Hunter Stockton Thompson who founded the gonzo movement once said that ‘politics is the art of controlling your environment’.
“The opportunity to welcome Wes Streeting back to Westminster City School, his roots, truly portrayed the true art of politics; a much loved subject I hope to be part of in the future.”
Our students very much appreciated the chance to gain a first-hand insight into what it is like to be a Politian and the importance of learning how to interact with different stakeholders.
