Shani Akilah, Writer and Screen Writer
On Tuesday 17 October, Shani Akilah, writer, screen writer, co-founder of the Nyah Network, a book club for Black women and literary judge for the Nota Bene Prize 2023 visited Westminster City School to deliver a keynote speech, thus concluding the Black History Month Speakers series at Westminster City School.
Shani spent the entire day at Palace Street interacting with students across different Years and delivered an outstanding workshop entitled ‘The Power of Your Story’. Students were thoroughly engaged throughout the entire sessions and had the opportunity to read and explore extracts from the book ‘For Such a Time as This’, a book written by Shani which will be released in Summer 2024.
The day was truly inspirational and students received top tips and reminders about the importance of never giving up on what you are passionate about, work hard in life, document all the wonderful experiences and enjoy the journey.
