BackJesus College, University of Cambridge
Recently, selected students in Year 12 at Westminster City School had the opportunity to visit Jesus College at the University of Cambridge to gain insight into being a student and hear about the application process.
The day started off with a warm and welcoming introduction to Cambridge, which consisted of an overview of how the courses work, a brief description of the various colleges at the university which highlighted their similarities and differences.
Students then had a tour of the astonishing grounds which gave them a glimpse of life at Cambridge. The breath-taking tour was then followed by an incredibly informative session on how to students can translate their experiences in super curricular activities to a strong application.
Year 12 student at Westminster City School, Elita, commented on her experience of the day saying:
“A key aspect that stood out to me during the visit was the supervisor system that is available. They have small groups of students attending lectures with their supervisor, which allows them to build a relationship and gain one-on-one help with their projects.
“It has given me an extra push to prepare myself, to continue studying hard, to focus and do everything in my power to be a suitable and successful candidate.
“Thank you Westminster City School for bringing me along to this amazing day!”
Zaiynab, who is also in Year 12 at Westminster City School added:
"My visit to the University of Cambridge was nothing short of a captivating journey through academic excellence and historical beauty. From the moment I set foot on the renowned campus, I was enveloped in an atmosphere steeped in tradition, innovation, and a rich intellectual legacy. The heart of my visit lay in the interactions with the academics that call Cambridge home. Attending lectures and discussions, I was immersed in a sea of ideas and perspectives that challenged and expanded my understanding of the application process. The passion and abilities of the professors were palpable, inspiring a deep appreciation for the pursuit of knowledge.
"However, my experience was not confined to academic pursuits alone. The vibrant student life added a dynamic layer to the visit. Engaging with students from diverse backgrounds, I saw the combination of tradition and modernity in their everyday lives.
"As I bid farewell to the University of Cambridge, I carried with me not only a wealth of knowledge but also a profound sense of reverence for the institution. Cambridge, with its history, intellect, and charm, has become more than a destination; it has become an inspiration that will resonate with me for years to come."
