Westminster City School Launches Peer Mentoring Programme for Year 8 Students

Westminster City School has officially launched an exciting new peer mentoring programme designed to support Year 8 students in navigating their way through the challenges of secondary school life. A dedicated group of Year 12 students, specially trained as mentors by KS5 Pastoral Manager, Ms Murphy, are now providing guidance, advice, and support to their younger peers to ensure that they feel equipped to tackle the challenges and embrace opportunities as they embark on their educational journey through Years 8 to 11.

The programme pairs Year 12 students with Year 8 mentees, offering a friendly and approachable support system for these students. The mentors, who are carefully selected and trained, are not only skilled in providing academic guidance but also show a genuine interest in the well-being and personal development of their mentees. This ensures that the younger students feel more confident and prepared as they progress through their school years.

For the Year 12 mentors, the programme is a valuable opportunity to develop key skills in leadership, communication, and problem-solving. By taking on the role of a mentor, these students are able to further enhance their own academic and personal growth while making a positive impact on the school community.

Ms Murphy, KS5 Pastoral Manager at Westminster City School, said:

“This initiative is about creating a supportive, nurturing environment where students can grow and succeed together. It is wonderful to see our Year 12 students step up to help guide the younger students, and the feedback so far has been incredibly positive from both mentors and mentees.”

Well done to the selected Year 12 students who are involved in this programme - setting a strong foundation for future success and a positive school culture of inspiring excellence in all aspects.
