Year 13 Student Receives Offer from University of St Andrews – Highly Ranked in the UK!
Congratulations and well done to Year 13 student at Westminster City School, Natalia, who has received an offer to study at the prestigious and highly competitive University of St Andrews, ranked the best university in the UK in 2023 by both The Guardian and The Times. Natalia will study the International Honours Programme, with the added opportunity to spend two years at William and Mary College in Virginia, USA.
A Life-Changing Opportunity
For Natalia, who joined Westminster City School’s Sixth Form after completing her GCSEs at The Hurlingham Academy, the decision to apply to the University of St Andrews was clear. "I’ve been following the university for a while, watching lectures, learning about student life, and I even had the privilege to visit the university. When I visited, I knew it was the right fit for me," Natalia explained. The chance to study abroad at William and Mary was another exciting aspect, as she is “looking forward to experiencing new perspectives and gaining a broader understanding of global issues.”
“The International Relations Programme, which I will study at both St Andrews and William and Mary, will allow me to gain a deeper understanding of global politics, economics, and law,” says Natalia. “At St Andrews, I’ll explore topics such as international security, while at William and Mary, I’ll delve into global conflicts. This will give me the skills I need to pursue a career in international relations.”
From a young age, Natalia promised herself that she would stand by her community in Latin America and support the most vulnerable. “The challenges my family and I have witnessed have motivated me to focus on helping those in need, and this will always remain my core aspiration in life,” she says.
This offer is a huge achievement for Natalia and certainly one that is worth celebrating. She expressed her gratitude, saying:
“I am deeply grateful to have received this offer. My journey from growing up in a small town to studying in London, and now having the opportunity to study at the University of St Andrews, has been surreal, something younger me could never have imagined. I genuinely believe that there’s no greater feeling than making yourself and those around you proud, and I will forever be thankful for the support my family has always given me. I also feel incredibly grateful to God, whose strength and perseverance have guided me along this path.”
Reflecting on Time at WCS
Reflecting on her time at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form, Natalia praised the school’s support and guidance throughout her A-Level journey. She commented:
“Joining Westminster City School’s Sixth Form has been an absolute delight. The teachers have really pushed me to reach my potential, and I’ve made lifelong friends here. To any students thinking of coming to this sixth form, I would highly recommend studying at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form; it’s a place where students are supported every step of the way.
“With only a few more months to go before my time at Westminster City School comes to an end, I am confident that I will continue to receive the necessary support from teachers.”
