Inter-School STEM Competition at Alleyn’s School

21 March 2025

Hosted by Alleyn’s School in Dulwich, the Inter-School STEM Competition brought together Sixth Form students from six schools, competing in teams of three. Ten Year 12 students from Westminster City School were fortunate to be selected for this competition, which covered questions on biological, chemical, physical, and engineering content. Students worked together academically and strategically to achieve success, with two Westminster City School teams securing second and third places in the competition. The host school claimed first place.

Miss Clarke, Head of Chemistry and Oxbridge Coordinator at Westminster City School, commented:

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the trip and acted as role models for the school while travelling and participating in the competition. A big well done to all the students who took part and gave their very best during the event.”

Year 12 student at Westminster City School, Maddi shared:

“I believe this experience helped me gain an insight into the world of science beyond the A-level syllabus and tested how well I work under pressure. It was also fun to work with my peers from school as we adapted to working efficiently and used our critical thinking skills to overcome difficult questions.”

Athena, also a Year 12 student at Westminster City School, added:

“This was a very positive experience. The competition between teams, particularly between schools, encouraged focus while fostering a friendly, competitive atmosphere that benefited every student there. Additionally, it improved my knowledge of sciences beyond my specialist subjects and informed me about the history of various scientists and the development of science as a whole.”

Partnership events like these provide valuable opportunities for students to learn from one another, share ideas, and work together to solve complex problems. Westminster City School would like to thank Alleyn’s School for hosting this science competition.
