Aspiring Architect Accepted to Bartlett Summer School

20 March 2025

Congratulations to Year 12 student at Westminster City School, Ritika, who has been offered a place on The Bartlett Summer School 2025 five-day on-campus programme for 16–18-year-olds, who are passionate about architecture.

The Bartlett Summer School gives students a unique chance to dive into the world of architecture through hands-on design exercises, visits to architectural exhibitions, professional offices, and local landmarks. The programme combines creativity, teamwork, and expert insights, providing students with a taste of what a future in architecture could look like.

When asked what motivated her to apply for the programme, Ritika, explained:

“I found out about the Bartlett Summer School through an online search while researching architectural summer programmes. Due to the fact that I’ve always been fascinated by architecture, I wanted to explore this opportunity further. The chance to learn from experts at The Bartlett School of Architecture and work with other creative students is something I’m really excited about. I hope this experience will help me to develop my skills and knowledge in preparation for future studies in architecture.

“The five-day programme will conclude with a mini exhibition to showcase the work produced during the programme, which I am really looking forward to.

“I am thankful that I have access to this amazing opportunity as it will enable me to gain practical knowledge of how architecture is taught at university, this will be invaluable and a huge help as I prepare to apply to architecture schools in the future.”

Ritika went on to share her future aspirations, stating that she plans to study architecture at a top university with a focus on sustainable design and urban planning. “My goal is to create spaces that are both innovative and environmentally conscious. This particular summer school programme is an important step in solidifying my passion for architecture,” she concluded.

For students like Ritika, an abundance of opportunities are offered at Westminster City School, allowing students to have a range of experiences to help with their academic and personal development. Below, we have included a video from Grimshaw Architecture highlighting an example of the opportunities that are accessible to our students. 'For the third RIBA and Grimshaw Foundation Annual Art Lecture, guests were joined by the acclaimed Guyanese-British sculptor and contemporary artist, Hew Locke, in conversation with writer and curator, Ekow Eshun. In this video, Hew Locke, Ekow Eshun, and some fantastic students from Westminster City School (including Ritika) reflect on the impact that art and the world around us has on creativity, sharing insights into their own work, and inspiration for the future'.
