Motown Magic: Year 7 Music Concert at WCS

4 April 2025

On Thursday 3 April, the Music Department at Westminster City School held the first-ever Year 7 Music Concert, giving each class the chance to showcase a song that they learnt and worked hard on over this half term in front of their peers and staff.

With a vibrant Motown theme, the concert featured iconic hits from legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and The Temptations; celebrating the timeless sounds of this genre. Songs that were included in the concert were ‘My Girl’ by The Temptations, ‘Sir Duke’ by Stevie Wonder and ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’, to name just a few.

Miss Chan, Teacher in Charge of KS3 Music at Westminster City School, said:
“I am immensely proud of what was achieved by our Year 7 cohort. Our talented students from other year groups also supported the Year 7s by performing in a live band, bringing even more energy and excitement to the event. This concert is a true celebration of the hard work and dedication the Year 7s have put into their singing. It's all part of our KS3 Music Curriculum, and I couldn't be more pleased with their performance."

Miss Mole, Assistant Headteacher and Teacher of Music at Westminster City School, added:
“They certainly had rhythm and vibe! It was very heartwarming to see these students performing on stage with confidence and joy. Not one of them allowed their nerves to get the better of them. They stepped out of their comfort zones, took on the challenge, and delivered a performance to be proud of. This is a day that they'll remember forever."
