Year 12 Students Explore the Supreme Court

25 April 2025

On Thursday 24 April, Year 12 students from Westminster City School, who are part of the Pathways to Law Programme, had the opportunity to visit the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, located on Parliament Square.

During their visit, students were given a tour of the Court’s three courtrooms and explored an exhibition showcasing the history and significance of this iconic institution. Opened in 2009, the Supreme Court serves as the highest appeals court in the UK. The students involved also learned about what it takes to become a judge in the country’s top court and the important role the Court plays in ensuring a transparent and fair judicial system.

Akash reflected on the day and shared how inspiring it was to be present. He said:

“Visiting the Supreme Court and being able to see the building where justice is delivered, and hearing about how the law is interpreted and applied was inspiring. Overall, the day gave me a deeper appreciation and understanding of the law and how it protects individual rights.”

Ronni, added:

“The Supreme Court is breathtaking, and it was such an incredible experience to be able to visit. From the stained-glass windows to the grand paintings and the curtains symbolising the unity of Britain, it was amazing to see. Learning about how justice is served so transparently has definitely inspired me to pursue a future in law.”

This visit was a valuable opportunity for our aspiring lawyers to gain firsthand insight into the workings of the UK's highest court and deepen their understanding of the legal system. Within our Sixth Form, we offer four innovative pathways that help students gain work experience, receive mentoring, attend lectures and seminars, get interview practice, receive support with their university applications, and more.

Each pathway has a designated member of staff with expertise and contacts in their chosen field. They will meet with students to ensure that they gain full benefit from the programme.
