BackA visit to Magdalen College, Oxford
On Wednesday 22 November, selected students in Year 12 at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form visited Magdalen College, Oxford for a taster day.
For many of these students, this was their first time visiting Oxford, which gave them an insight into the wide range of degrees that are available. They also had the chance to tour Magdalen College with student ambassadors, attend a Q&A session and engaged in a multi-subject critical thinking workshop.
Year 12 student Mujtaba commented on his experience saying:
"The trip to Oxford was very insightful and beneficial. Exploring Oxford for the first time really opened my eyes, as I never truly knew what career I should take, however, visiting Oxford and speaking to the students has helped me to be more informed about what I would like to study after Sixth Form.”
Makaila, who is also in Year 12 at Westminster City School’s Sixth Form said:
“My trip to Magdalen College, Oxford was an enriching and inspiring experience. I was struck with awe at the sheer sight of the beautiful infrastructure of the university, and it was very much surreal to walk along the halls and corridors of this institution that has educated so many world leaders and academics.
“I also gained valuable information and tips on applying to Oxford from a Law student who gave us the opportunity to ask a multitude of questions. During lunch I had the chance to speak to other students who shared similar interests and goals.
“As someone who enjoys debating, the debate workshop was a special way of gaining insight on how to effectively argue and reason.
“Overall, it was an unforgettable experience.”
Barney, who also had the opportunity to visit Magdalen College, Oxford, added:
“I think that the trip to Oxford helped to provide us with an insight into university life and to see if Oxford is right for us. The opportunity to speak to current students also helped us to understand the skills we need to have a successful application, as it is extremely competitive.”
